Always, Clementine is written as a series of letters from Clementine to Rosie, a chimpanzee who she meets in the lab. The chapters start 'Dear Rosie' and end with the marvellous mouse signing off, 'Always, Clementine'.
The story gives voice to Clementine's thoughts. Readers get to peek inside her genius brain, to see what she sees, and experience what she does as she escapes the lab and has to survive in the outside world. That's where the story really takes off.
Clementine gets to know Gus and Pop who are 'good humans'. And Hamlet who's not human, he's a mouse, too, though not as clever as Clementine. She has a close encounter with television, a bath in a teacup (not fun when you don't like water), and discovers chess.
Will Clementine be able to evade the researchers forever, and keep her new life? You'll need to read the story to find out.
Author Carlie Sorosiak loves writing about animals, especially their 'inner lives'. Clementine the mouse joins the animals from two of her previous books My Life As A Cat (the cat's name is Leonard) and I, Cosmo (about a dog).
