Review: There's Only One Grandma Like You

Grandmas are the best.

They are magical people who are there for us in ways no one else in the world can be.

They love you unconditionally.

They are a shoulder to cry on, a confidant and a sneaker of treats.

There’s Only One Grandma Like You is a celebration of all the grandmas. It’s an exploration of all the things that make grandmas special and all the different ways kids might connect with theirs.

Strolls on winding pathways, stories wrapped in your shawl.

Treats snuck in my pockets, a boost in basketball.

Written in glorious rhyme, author/illustrator Jess Racklyeft delivers a loving story that rolls off the tongue and delights through rhythm and beat. It’s a delightful picture book to read and so much fun to explore.

Grandmas are represented by the animal kingdom in this special book, and Racklyeft uses a wide variety of animals to depict all the ways grandmas are amazing. To me this is a beautiful metaphor to celebrate diversity, and also the uniqueness of each grandma-child relationship — all different, but all connected by a love that cannot be broken.

There’s only One Grandma Like You is a beautiful story to share with grandmas everywhere.

And if you’d like to celebrate more family members, make sure you check out There’s Only One Mum like You and There’s Only One Friend Like You, also by Jess Racklyeft.
