There’s a Zoo in my Poo takes an educational and amusing look at gut health and how an array of bugs work together to process food through our bodies.
Broken into nine sections such as You are a Bug, All about the Poo Train, Bugs in our Guts, Your Poo and You, Feed your Zoo and more, each includes fun rhymes, facts and scientific explanations.
Gurgling with captivating information, children and even adults will learn about the details of microscopic bugs, bacteria, mucus, how intestines work, how different food affects our health, even our brains, different kinds of poo, and of course how there is essentially a zoo in our poo, which we should look after as best we can.Finishing with a section called Recipes for your Zoo, readers will leave empowered with gut health knowledge and the know-how to make Zoo-Poo Stew, Farty Toast and other funny sounding but beneficial meals.
I adore the cheerfully drawn bugs throughout; they add character and quirk to this educational resource. The illustration style and colours combined with the rhyming content gave me a slight Dr. Seuss.
Professor Felice Jacka is a world expert in Nutritional Psychiatry and gut health, she is the author of a book for adults called Brain Changer which also explores gut health and how it affects the brain.
